ISO 45001:2023

ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System

What is ISO 45001?

ISO 45001 represents the latest international benchmark for occupational health and safety management, superseding the OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) 18001 Standard. By mitigating workplace risks, it enhances employee safety significantly.

Attaining ISO 45001 certification demonstrates that your organisation adheres to best practices in Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. This not only reduces the likelihood of accidents and regulatory violations but also elevates overall organisational performance.

Distinguished by its development by a committee of occupational health and safety experts, ISO 45001 surpasses numerous existing standards in the field. It integrates insights from international standards like OHSAS 18001, the International Labour Organisation's ILO-OSH Guidelines, various national standards, and the ILO's international labour standards and conventions. Consequently, it stands as one of the most comprehensive and valuable Health and Safety Management Systems available today.

Why is ISO 45001 important?

Implementing ISO 45001 offers substantial advantages for organisations seeking to enhance workplace safety and demonstrate their commitment to occupational health and safety (OH&S). The benefits include:

  • Providing an internationally recognised framework for managing occupational health and safety risks, facilitating systematic hazard assessment and risk mitigation measures, resulting in decreased workplace injuries, illnesses, and incidents.

  • Demonstrating to employees and external stakeholders the organisation's dedication to worker health, safety, and well-being, thereby enhancing reputation, morale, and retention.

  • Ensuring compliance with OH&S regulations and promoting proactive risk management, potentially leading to reduced insurance premiums.

  • Enhancing organisational resilience against safety threats and crises by mandating emergency preparedness and response protocols.

  • Facilitating continual improvement and evolution of the OH&S system through the plan-do-check-act framework, thereby enhancing long-term worker health and safety performance.

In summary, ISO 45001 empowers organizations to safeguard their workers and manage OH&S risks effectively, making it an indispensable standard on a global scale.
